Malcolm CasSelle is the President of WAX, the Worldwide Asset Exchange, and the CIO of OPSkins which is a decentralized platform that develops secure and transparent in-game virtual items exchanged on the blockchain created by OPSkins. As of writing this article, it is currently the #1 Marketplace for buying and selling virtual items from online video games. In just 2 years, he has helped make WAX a multi-billion-dollar company, but where does that experience come from? Prior to WAX and OPSkins, CasSelle was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and President of New Ventures at Tronc Inc., as well as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media at SeaChange International. He also led startups in the digital industry, including MediaPass, Xfire, and Groupon’s joint venture with Tencent in China.
With that kind of resumé comes some serious study time. He graduated from both MIT and Stanford University with degrees in Computer Science; a Bachelor’s Degree from MIT and a Master’s Degree from Stanford. He speaks both Mandarin and Japanese as well, which has allowed him to expand overseas to China.
Recently, CasSelle did an interview in which he spoke about his career and personal life. He speaks about both his and his company’s failures and successes. When asked about one of his biggest failures, he states “My biggest failure was failing to feed my spiritual side completely while being so focused on my businesses. By staying grounded and peaceful, it makes everything easier and a lot more fun.” He gives even more advice throughout the interview, telling us to be curious and ask questions, study, and put effort into our minds and bodies. CasSelle also shares some business practice tips, advising us to enter a field in which there is little to no competition, saying that it may be harder to fund but it is easier to be the leader. He then ends the interview with his favorite quote from Nelson Mandela. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
