Bruce Levenson Funds The University Of Maryland’s DO Good Institute

Bruce Levenson‘s support of the Do Good Institute has enhanced the success of the non-profit initiative. The Do Good Institute was established by the University of Maryland to bring change to the higher education. The campaign is aimed at encouraging undergraduate students at the University and other universities to support philanthropic causes by exposing them to the world of non-profit and volunteering. It is hoped that such exposures would help in creating the next wave of non-profit business leaders. Levenson embarked on supporting the campaign right after selling Atlanta Hawks, claims Forbes.com.

In an interview with Benzinga, https://www.benzinga.com/news/17/03/9165680/university-of-marylands-non-profit-initiative-is-changing-higher-education, Levenson noted that many organizations have failed to achieve their mission because the people who led them did not possess the needed skills to see them succeed. His involvement with the Do Good Institute hopes to change this scenario by providing young students with adequate exposure.

Levenson and his wife seeded the $75 million initiative. The University of Maryland, who came up with the idea, contributed $20 million towards the noble cause. The first group of students to benefit from the Institute was Philanthropy 101. Do Good Institute provided every student with $10,000 to donate to a cause of their choice. News on the event went viral both inside and outside the university.

The program has proven to be successful as seen from the works of former students who participated in the same. For instance, Ben Simon went ahead to co-found the Food Recovery Network (FRN). The organization operates under the DO Good Institute umbrella. Its core goal is waste-prevention. Notably, students at the campus run the movement.

Brexit Vote Could Help Brazil’s Struggling Economy

Theresa May, the new Prime Minister of Britain wanted to stay in the European Union. David Cameron did too, so he resigned. May took over because she wanted to respect the will of the people and make a success of the decision to leave the EU. Leaving the European Union is not something that happens overnight. Britain has to evoke an agreement called Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, and it takes someone schooled in EU bureaucracy to translate that agreement. The agreement gives both sides two years to agree on terms for the exit, and Mrs. May isn’t going to start that process until the end of 2016. The world is watching Britain go through the separation pains of leaving the EU, but business people like Flavio Maluf, the CEO of the international construction supply company Eucatex, based in Sao Paulo Brazil, wants the process to speed up.

Flavio Maluf has been running Eucatex for almost 20 years. Eucatex was born from a family owned sawmill in the early 1950s. The sawmill was cutting eucalyptus trees for domestic construction companies back then, and Flavio’s father decided to make ceiling tiles for those construction companies out of eucalyptus wood. The ceiling tiles were a success in the domestic consumer market, so Eucatex got into the export business based on that success. Flavio joined the company in 1987 after spending time in New York to continue his education. Portuguese is his native language so Flavio spent time studying English as well as business at New York University. Maluf helped his college friends translate English into Portuguese, and years later some of those friends relocated to Brazil to work.

Today, Eucatex is one of the top export companies in Brazil. Maluf is excited about the Brexit vote because there is a chance that Britain may decide to do more business with his company and with other companies in Brazil. Some members of the government are talking about developing a bilateral trade agreement with Britain once all the preliminary details are put to bed. Brazil needs a trading partner like Britain. When China cut back on imports from Brazil, it left a big hole in the export business. Maluf and other business leaders are trying to plug that hole.

Read more: Andy Wirth – About.me

He has a strong commitment to the local environment and has a history of environmental support beginning with his father who was involved in writing some of the foundations for forest preservation in the country.

Andy Wirth is not only a skier but a triathlete as well, unfortunately he is also a skydiver who nearly lost his life in a horrendous landing in which his arm was severed from his torso.

Wirth is a fighter and after multiple surgeries his arm was reattached and he was rehabilitated to continue his frenetic life at Squaw Valley. After the accident he co-founded an Ironman team, named “Wounded Warrior Support”. Read more: Andy Wirth Elected Chairman of Reno-Tahoe Regional Air Service Corporation

The team honors the work done by the Navy SEALS and raises money for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

Andy Wirth was instrumental in combining Squaw Valley with the adjacent ski facility, Alpine Meadows, into a combined mega-ski resort connected by a new gondola that allows skiers from Squaw Valley to ski the trails at Alpine Meadows and vice-versa. Along the way Wirth spearheaded an opposition drive to incorporate the ski area that would have taken control away from Wirth and the ski area itself.

Andy Wirth recently was appointed to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board. His immersion into the tourist industry in this piece of paradise is complete and you can be certain that he will continue to tirelessly work toward the betterment of the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows areas. We only hope he limits his skydiving.
